I believe the following is the first thing that I wrote about this project. Since then and in the process of creation, many of the original ideas were replaced by better ones. Initially I thought of it as a pure startup, but over time I realized that the club should be a non-profit to protect it from the possibility of takeover by a pure profit-seeking entity to the detriment of the members. It took some work, but I think we've come up with a system that can be beneficial for all. Pet Kennel Club I have started several successful and a couple of less successful companies. This is one of my better business plans, with a high potential for long term success. We can satisfy a need in the world of dogs and other pets, generate supplementary income, and build a brand and business that can outlive me and become a publicly traded company that makes a positive difference for pet owners and related businesses. We are building a 'kennel club" that combines traditional dog breeding and quality improvement with modern digital and social tools. This has the potential to resolve issues that various companies have presently, such as the "one and done" business of DNA analysis companies like 23 and me, and could reduce dog owners' costs for health insurance and other needs. Existing kennel clubs are strongly based on old methods including strong control over breeding and narrow breed-based dog quality and performance metrics. On the other hand, no popular social media or other online service is purely devoted to the dog or pet communities. The list of potential benefits includes aspects of almost every online community support system. I am preparing the business plan for initial "friends and family" and angel support, which I plan to use to establish the necessary relationships with several dog and pet products and services, and provide marketing for a Kickstarter campaign. With success of that campaign I will work with WeFunder or another equity crowdfunding form to fund the rapid public awareness required to build the "network effect" that the dog owners, breeders, service providers, and product suppliers will need to make it successful and be useful in the long term. Once 1%, possibly even 0.5%, of US dog owners are subscribed the business can be self sustaining into the future. I will skip the friends and family and angel phase and go directly to establishing the business relationships necessary, and then run the Kickstarter campaign. That campaign is more useful for demonstrating interest than purely getting customers signed up. Even if the Kickstarter only raises another $25000 that will amount to as many as 1000 preliminary subscribers. Creation of the parent company as an LLC, developing the business plan, and preliminary market research. The business will depend strongly on a high performance WWW presence and database system with high privacy and security, able to reliably protect the subscribers from online security threats. This could be based on an Amazon server system. It is also feasible and likely to incorporate a significant Amazon link system providing discounts for pet-related products and companies selling on Amazon. This could be a two-way benefit, supporting other Amazon vendors who advertise, participate, or support the Club.
